The second we got off this plane in San Jose I could feel my hair literally triple in size from humidity alone. Nevertheless, San Jose is a beautiful city alive with wild life in places you’d never expect it. On just the walk to my hotel room I saw two snakes, an iguana, and several groups of large forest crabs (did you know that was a thing?!??) We hiked to hidden beaches and enjoyed every second of the short day spent in San Jose.

The next several hours we drove through the lush winding roads of Costa Rica in search of our estate in Playa Negra. As a person who’s spent likely at least a solid year of her life in a car I’m delighted to say it was the best seven hours looking out a window I’ve experienced to this day. We stopped at random towns for tacos (take note the smaller the town and cheaper the taco the better the quality) and I bought an Avacado the size of my head for the equivalent to ten cents from a sweet old woman on the side of the road, then we were on our way.
Long drive from San Jose to Manuel Antonio
The home we stayed at in Playa Negra was jaw dropping. (Fun fact it’s owned by the creator of HGTV) it had a private beach, open landscape, and best of all: air conditioning. Each morning was spent dodging grasshoppers (or perhaps crickets?) that swarmed the house and flew like a match was under their wings till about noon. They made it everywhere from the fridge to the toilet bowl. I collected shells on the beach for hours a day and waded through the tide pools to watch the fish and marine life. Of course, the water was like a refreshing bath and the waves always perfect size, what else would you expect from an almost eye-rolling paradise.
